2015 is a year like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Climate change is well underway, with scientist predicting the warmest year in recorded history. And a series of massive political moments, including COP21 in Paris, From September 4th - 20th, join our Global #Call4Climate Action. We’ll flood the media with blogs, op-eds, interviews and more; shaping the global conversation toward climate solutions, one article at a time.
This year alone, Climate Trackers have helped people around the world understand the stakes and solutions by publishing over 700 stories in newspapers and blogs. Their impact is literally changing the world, by changing how we see the world.
Together, as Climate Trackers, we’re taking over the media, calling on fellow citizen to mobilize for their future, and ensuring leaders are pressed on climate action at every turn.
Join us as we flood the media with blogs, op-eds, interviews and more. We’re asking you to take up one of the following topics to help us build crucial momentum as the clock counts down to Paris:
Option 1:
Negotiators need to speed up! We have seen that the world is changing at an even faster rate than predicted. NASA recently announced that sea level rise is faster than ever, and 2015 looks certain to be the hottest year ever - ‘by a mile’.
If the UN climate negotiations are going to keep pace with Climate Change and the rate of technological innovation outside, they need to speed up - big time.
It is also clear that if the Paris meeting locks in present climate commitments, a climate safe future could be out of reach. Part of the Paris deal has to include an agreement that countries improve their climate action plans every five years.
Option 2:
According to the world's leading climate scientists, the only real chance we have of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees and securing a climate safe future is if we phase out fossil fuels and reduce our emissions to zero by 2050.
This will require long term vision and dramatic short term action! However, it is achievable.
Already countries like Costa Rica, the Marshall Islands and Samoa have committed to zero emissions by 2050, not it’s our turn.
If we want to show the world that we are serious about climate change, it’s time we stand up and set a long term vision that matches the science.
