[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIXFQaayB6U]

for English speakers.
Today I’m going to present to all of you Mariagrazia Midulla, head of the Climate and Energy programme of WWF Italy.
She is a very kind woman, always available and most of all she speaks clearly.
The important message, in my point of view, that comes out from this interview, is how old will the people deciding for us be in 2050? are they aware that long term policies are needed?

Here is part of the interview:
What do you think will come out from the Bonn talks on climate change, and what do we need to get an effective agreement in December in Copenhagen?

In Bonn things are proceeding slowly, hopefully they’ll not postpone everything to the next conferences.
(…) There is the impression that everybody is just waiting for the others to move (…), and this is risky because in this way we don’t know how it might end up in Copenhagen: we must not let this talks end up in a bad way.
In Copenhagen we need a real agreement, significant and consistent with the science.
An ineffective agreement it’s not needed because we have to limit the damages created by the climate change.

Why the Italian media are not giving to the Bonn conference the importance that it deserves?
Italians are not adequately informed on climate change. There is concern about it, there is perception of the problem, but what it is missing is the next step: the awareness on how the things really are and what we should do.
With these conditions there is the danger of falling into despair, that the less you know about it the more you think that this is a catastrophe is too huge that can’t even be faced.
But as the youth always remind us all during these conferences, this is a speech done by middle aged people, not from 20 years old guys that see the possibility of really dangerous situations in their future.
Today we have the chance to achieve to targets: solve this global climate crisis and improve our quality of life. We can, dealing with one problem, solve many others; but we need two things,1) that the civil society is informed and 2) that they are more active.

Thanks Mariagrazia.

Now a question for all of you: how old will you be in 2050?
