Social sharing
Various activities, actions and alliances made during this year we see almost finished, marked a milestone in the history of global climate struggle. The gigantic march in New York, the energy agreement between China and the United States, the capitalization of the Green Climate Fund and the realization of the Social Precop in Venezuela.
The latter has been vital to incorporate social participation in the fight against climate change and need to reach a global agreement political awakening. Although some positions and perceptions found, the Precop opened a path to the role that societies and communities in adapting to and mitigating climate change.

Claudia Salerno, head of the official delegation of Venezuela
But is this enough to make Venezuela takes the reins of being among the countries of Latin America with more position on climate change ?.
Globally, Latin America is one of the most susceptible to the devastating impacts of climate and Venezuela enters the list of nations most vulnerable to change regions. This country must chart the way towards sustainable resource-based nature, promoting the production of renewable energy and promoting the conservation of ecological spaces such beauty that even many have been awarded by UNESCO and other institutions of special relevance.
There is not doubt that Venezuela is located in northern South is fossil-dependent production of oil and gas, which are actually counterproductive if you want to attack the root problem. This fight is not only accusing the other pollutants countries (which really are) and not taking sufficient measures for adaptation and mitigation of climate change.
It is important that the Venezuelan government to define a strategy of adaptation to extreme climate phenomena and to do so, the time is now. Hopefully the COP-20 serve to push action on this issue …
The role of NGOs
In Venezuela, the role of NGOs in environmental issues is strong and because of the COP-20 some organizations focused on promoting a constructive message to Venezuela and its participation at the 20th. United Nations Conference on Climate Change.
The position is firm and ask them a greater commitment of the Venezuelan State to climate policies in the country, absolutely refusing redirection of the former Ministry of Popular Power for the Environment (created about 40 years ago), a Vice ecosocialism.
The ARA RED, who has the largest number of NGOs on issues such as biodiversity, conservation of natural resources, sustainable development, among others, has published in the past year, several important bulletins and petitions to the government. They can find their website here .
Venezuela and COP-20
Venezuela’s role at this important conference is important. For reasons of Latin American brotherhood, Venezuela would support Peru in getting a global climate agreement during these negotiations, ignoring some points that are important to Venezuela as their political ideology.
I would like to share this short video of Atty. Valdivia Ramiro Herrera, who yesterday offered to the Plenary of the COP20, the views of Venezuela on this conference and in general on the aspirations that this country has for it.
Oil and climate, two sides of the same coin
Venezuela is a fossil-dependent country in nature. Oil is a “reference” for our current economy and consider the price of a barrel of oil as a strategy for our development model, but how long can last ?. And the most important question of all is, you can put a price on climate? And the answer is yes.
Many studies and research that demonstrate the need to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change because it can be highly costly and generate economic and financial imbalances in the countries, especially those in developing countries.
Our geographical position should prompt us to look into other energy directions, able to be more efficient and more environmentally friendly, both for the present and our future. Venezuela should be aware that it is in possession of numerous ecosystems, landscapes and natural resources that can leverage -of sostenible- way to assure the country and even to Latin America a step towards combating climate change.
Should resume look to renewable energy, our country should not and can continue to rely on oil for economic sectors of modern society. In the XXI century, we have our sufficient scope and renewable energy technologies, which although they are expensive home, will budget to the final …
That said then, Venezuela will be able to know how the weather right?
