Have to dash!

I have to jump on a plane ASAP because exciting things are happening in London!
So as usual the last day of negotiations has flown by in a whirlwind. In fact, as I write this at 6pm they are still in full swing!
I haven’t found a minute to sit down and blog before now though, because most of the day was spent doing things with the youth.
In these negotiating sessions the youth were given an ‘íntervention’ (UN speak for speech/statement) in one the closing sessions. We only found out last night that this was confirmed, and we have had a pretty intense few hours pulling it together. So there was just no time to blog until that was over, and since we were the very last people to speak and A LOT of countries wanted to make VERY long statements it took up most of the day!
And now, well literally, I have to dash. Maybe even before the negotiations are finished (I’m taking a pretty good guess that they won’t save the world after I’ve left…)
I have to head straight to the airport to jump on a plane and get back to the UK ASAP!
Today during the youth intervention in plenary this was said.
“While governments are cautiously calculating their commitments based on what they believe is possible, the youth respectfully remind them, that throughout history, political forces can shift rapidly when people rally together for change.
As one of the youngest people in this room, I will spend my life with the decisions you make today.
We have an opportunity to make some of the most profound and positive changes in the history of mankind.
Let’s start acting like it.
Young people around the world are doing just that, organising in our communities, locally, nationally, and internationally, and we find our hope for the future in our movements.
We ask, will you join us? It is not too late to do your part.
The youth are leading…please follow.”
The reason I have to dash is because this weekend in London we, the young people of the UK, will be leading!
We are holding a huge event called Power Shift, to train a whole new bunch of young people how to lead us out of the mess we are in, and into a bright new future.
But that’s not going to leave much time for blogging either!
So I hope you’ll excuse me, and I promise to round up Bangkok properly next week.
But for now, I have to dash!
If there’s one thing we’ve all learnt in Bangkok, it’s that we really do not have time to waste!
