A hopeful picture at the UN Climate Talks?
Negotiations rumbled on in break-out groups at the UN Climate Talks. In the halls the mood was one of constructive calm. Young people were out in force, bringing life to the talks with creative actions and stunts. Hoping to push their representatives to a more ambitious emission reduction commitment (30% by 2020), European youth waited outside the morning EU coordinating meeting with a message 30% = 6 million jobs. Then, later in the day youth took to the halls of the conference centre to highlight the need for safeguards in market mechanisms in a rather creative and interactive way. The day ended on a positive note with no ‘Fossil of the Day’ awarded, which makes us hope that maybe the constructive calm of the hallways has made its way into the actual talks.
