Sex and the Vatican City

As you may have read, there are a few out there who are a little upset with Rio+20. According to Rafael Correa, the President of Ecuador, The text has “no content, that’s why there was almost no reason people could disagree on it”.

But one of the particularly disappointing aspects of the text so far has been the Vatican decree to eliminate women’s reproductive rights. Throughout the negotiations, the Holy See, which is code for the Vatican City and the extended Catholic community, has been a stalwart defender of dark age moral arguments against women’s reproductive rights…this repetition is a theme in case you’re wondering.

As a result, a country with 823 registed citizens has not only influenced UN negotiations, but it has played a critical role in hindering the advancement of …women’s reproductive rights…one an international scale.

To put this in perspective, I’m not necessarily a popular guy, but I have 874 registered facebook friends.

Dear Holy See

You shock me
like a broken condom,
like a pregnancy test you never could have predicted
like the 1%
of contraceptive options that fail
when the
99% succeed and enhance
women’s reproductive rights.

Your dictions have made my ears menstrate
for days
my anger has been made fertile again
with the seeds of man-made policy
forced between the deleted sentences
of women’s reproductive rights.

You might call this a fight
for unborn believers
but there is nothing holy
about the holes you have left
in the text
on women’s reproductive rights.

Everyday your words play chess
with women and children’s lives
who have become your pawns
in your pyrrhic victory
that violates
women’s reproductive rights.

As a member of the future generations
who will have to deal with your gendered machinations
I pray
that someday soon,
the holy spirit will
forgive your actions this day
and deliver you from your
ridiculous stance
on women’s reproductive rights.

Because we can’t afford to wait.

you have let your lust over love-making
unlock
late-night locked-door-debates
between too many men
with a mind
to block
womens reproductive rights.

You might be a UN virgin,

But in discussions betweem states,
there is never a time or a place to prosletyze the UN,
and there is no place
for an all out
gang rape
on women’s reproductive rights.
Keep that shit in your Cathedrals
and keep your chastised Cross
at least
an old-man’s arm’s distance away
from women’s reproductive rights.
