I am not sure if I am allowed to upload this.

I know that in doing so I may be under an extradition warrant from the US - because what I have here is never-before seen hidden camera footage of the debates this week in the AWG-LCA on finance. I know you haven’t been able to view the negotiations via webcam, so I took it upon myself to reinstate a measure of transparency and accountability in the UNFCCC process.

What you are about to see, is a dialogue between the Paul Watkinson of the EU, and the G77 - represented by the Naderev Saño from Philippines and supported by Seyni Safo from Mali.

The footage isn’t exactly clear, and as there are no translations here at the UNFCCC, you will have to trust my translating skills.

It begins with the EU’s opening address, highlighting that as a result of the recent financial downturn, the world is not in a position to make increased financial commitments. The G77 then are seen pleading to the EU, asking “what can they do to encourage more finance”.

The EU then strangely introduces some arguments surrounding transportation. Suddenly, the G77 reacts to this “diverting tactic” and bluntly asks for more finance.

The EU then again explains the horrid financial conditions of citizens of developing countries which mean they cannot offer increased financial assistance. This infuriates the G77, who understandably scream out for more finance.

Surprisingly, the EU still believes there is room for collaboration. They then highlight the continuing financial woes of the US, completely ignoring the calls of Naderev Saño for increasing finance. Finally, after Seyni Safo‘s final impassioned call is overlooked, Naderev Saño gives up, and the negotiations simply break down.

*As a quick note, there are no nametags but the EU representative is wearing a full suit, and appears slightly darker in the video than his picture, Naderev Saño from Philippines is the first man on the phone with the exquisite black hair, but without the blazer, Seyni Safo from Mali is surprisingly not wearing a shirt.
