UN climate conferences provide a unique opportunities to put the spotlight on governments’ responses to climate change, making climate action newsworthy for a couple of weeks with the added political drama associated with UN conferences. However, the highly technical nature of the conference makes it more challenging to communicate effectively around the events. We hosted this ‘Twebinar’ prior to COP19 in Warsaw to discuss key messages and narratives that would use of the conference to highlight the need for urgent climate action and expose those standing on the way to adequate policies.
Few people understand this challenge better than Ria Voorhaar, Communications Coordinator at Climate Action Network (CAN-International). Ria has spent months preparing key messages for COP19, and identifying most effective ways for the partners of her organization to use the opportunity provided by the COP to spur governments and other actors into action and to held laggards accountable.
