What a week to start our future!

As I introduced last week this week is pretty action packed in the world of climate change talk. On Tuesday we have the UN high level summit in New York, followed on Thursday by the G20, followed next week by everyone heading to Bangkok for another UNFCCC negotiating session…PHEW!
I’ll be trying to keep you up to date with all that goes on this week, along with getting myself halfway round the world to actually attend the negotiations in Bangkok. So watch this space.
But to start the week on a good note, today we had another example of the UK leading the way (I know, I know, all this being the good one is very confusing for us cynical Brits, but what can I say!).
Today Gordon Brown stated that he WILL go to Copenhagen in December to push the deal as far as he possibly can towards what we need to see! He has called on other leaders to join him there too.
Gordon knows this is no longer just about our climate, but about the core of the way we live our lives, and that’s why he thinks leaders need to be at Copenhagen.
Couldn’t agree more Gord, but please make sure whatever happens at Copenhagen you don’t think the work stops there! Copenhagen is not the end of a deal that will save the world, but the beginning of a lot of hard work!
But to give him credit where it’s due, pre empting us all a bit Gordon had already made this announcement before we gave him our wake up call!

So Gordon knows how important this is and he knows what he has to do!
The question is do you?
The importance of this week, both for our leaders and for us, and the fact that we in the UK have to lead the way over the coming months. Along with the fact, we ALL have a part to play in this, up to, at, AND BEYOND Copenhagen, mean it’s time for us all to step it up.
However, I remember at the last negotiations I attended in Bonn, frustration at the sheer pace of things led me to say, “activism as usual is not working, the time for creativity is here!”
So what can we do?
Well If your between 16 and 25 (if not i’m sure you know people who are), and like me feel this frustration. If you realise how important these coming weeks are, feel the importance of this time and you want to do something about it, here’s something creative for you!
The future starts here
Let’s not leave it to our leaders!
Because OUR future is built on the decisions WE make today.
