Ed, Jan, Me…You.

This tracking is really getting easier and easier! Perhaps it’s because we are less than two weeks until Copenhagen begins, but it would seem even The Guardian are at it now! Just take a look at these photos they put up of Ed at a recent pre Copenhagen meeting.
The Guardian seems to be doing my job for me, Jan’s all over them!
Seeing Jan working so closely with Ed though, really brings home just how important a job our negotiators have. Many times we have been asked the question, Why are you tracking the negotiators, the politicians are the ones with the power?
This may be true but what I’ve learnt over the last 6 months is not to underestimate the role of negotiators!
Ed may be the one who can sign the dotted line, but it’s Jan and the team that actually do all the hard work. They are the ones who know the intimate ins and outs of this process, and it is they that ultimately advise Ed on what he should do.
As important as Ed is, he alone can do nothing. (and we all know there had to be a woman providing the brains behind the mission anyway right…).
So Jan has a pretty important role in all this.
But as Copenhagen bears down on us, and with all eyes looking to Obama to push things forward, I’ve started to think about how much any one person can really do.
How much can Obama do?
How much can Jan do?
How much can Ed do?
How much can I do?
And I have come to the conclusion, in the end, I really believe one person, whether it’s Jan, Ed, Obama or me can do nothing, alone.
Climate change demands of us, for the first time in history, to truly work together. As the United Nations, as, countries, as communities, as families.
To solve this we need a movement that unites us all. We all need to change and we need to change together.
That’s Obama, Ed, Jan, Me….and you!
Each of us has a part to play in this.
Just one person changing will get us nowhere. As one person we can do very little.
But as one world we can achieve everything we have ever hoped for…and more.
Which is it to be?
In two weeks we shall see what path the United Nations choose.
But the way I see it it’s not just up to them. We can choose to work together with those around us right now.
It’s time for us all to play our part. To assess how we live our lives. To stop acting as one person and start acting as one world.
In everything we do.
Anna, you’re right. You’re tracking these guys, which is fantastic. They’re doing their clever negotiator stuff, which I hope is fantastic! And I should be sharing what you’re doing, and getting other people to see how important this all is. That works for me!
