Wondering what this is about? Well, it appears as though world leaders have gathered in Bonn in advance of the first World Cup Games in South Africa later today. We’re hoping they don’t foul the planet and that instead they’ll invest in the future.
From the press release associated with the Event:
Big Heads Give Climate the Boot, World Cup Style
As the climate negotiations enter the last day, just two weeks before the opening of the g8/g20 meetings in Toronto, the G8 ‘big head’ leaders will avoid scoring an own goal on climate investment outside the Maritim Hotel.
“Although there is an improved atmosphere in the negotiations and progress on some of the difficult issues at the UN climate meeting, the political will to solve the core issues is still pending. Only with national progress in the US, EU, and big emerging economies can Cancun deliver important decisions- to get deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, prevent the many loopholes and make progress in providing the investment needed for shifting to a low carbon economy” said Paul Horsman on behalf of the tcktcktck campaign. “Within two weeks, some of the most powerful leaders will meet at the G8 and G20 summits - a clear message needs to be heard by these leaders how they want to move forward on the crucial investment packages Cancun has to deliver: to tackle climate change, alleviate poverty and move to a low carbon economy.”
